Aqua Above the City

Aqua Above the City
On the 85th floor of Taipei 101, the city is no longer merely a collection of streets and buildings; it unfolds like a vast scroll emerging gently from the clouds. Distant mountains cradle the verdant basin, while mist drifts along the ridgelines, enveloping the city in a soft and fluid memory. Seated by the window of Diamond Tony’s, one seems to hover between the city and the sky—immersed within it, yet momentarily detached.
Spring Pool Glass × Serendipity Studio was invited to create an artistic glass ceiling for this exceptional setting, responding to its rare height and unique perspective. The concept draws inspiration from the Liugong Canal, which once irrigated early Taipei. Rainwater descends from the clouds, traveling quietly along mountain foothills, through stone crevices and layers of earth, eventually converging into a river that shaped the city’s earliest lifeline. Today, it continues to flow silently beneath Taipei 101, an invisible thread that, though covered, has never disappeared.
Through the processes of fragmentation, reassembly, and regeneration, recycled glass reflects the layered passage of urban time. Geometric forms, inspired by droplets and bubbles, serve as the visual language of the installation. Between transparency and reflection, the ceiling becomes a canvas that narrates the cyclical relationship between city and nature. In the open dining area, the glass elements resemble rivers above the clouds, freely diverging and naturally converging. Within the private rooms, the forms gradually transform—from sharp, elongated droplets above the corridors to rounded beads near the windows—echoing the way waterways reunite deep within the city.
As light passes through the glass, the breath of water seems suspended in midair, allowing visitors to sense the quiet whisper of the Liugong Canal—a gentle yet enduring presence that continues to sustain the city’s formation and flow.
